Week 5 is in the books, and are we really picking up steam.
Teams on Bye: New Orleans & Detroit
Jameis Winston, TBB: I'll skip the requisite FitzMagic pun and cut straight to the chase: Fitz has come and gone, and Winston has always been the superior talent. Had they gotten to a 3-1 record, then perhaps Winston would still be on the bench, but that 2-2 record, with the additional poor look of two BAD losses and the change is upon us. His matchup is good this week, and as an aside Winston has a terrific run of matchups the next two months.
Ownership: Yahoo 22%; NFL 37% & ESPN 13%.
Blake Bortles: JAX: yes this is a tricky one, but if you dig into the numbers, it has taken two top 5 defenses to derail Bortles, or a road game in Arrowhead Stadium, which is historically the most difficult place to visit. This week he goes to Dallas, which is a giant shopping mall with a football field where most have an ice skating rink. There's nothing intimidating there, and their passing defense is respectable but if still borderline top ten after 5 weeks. I'm expecting his 4th game in 6 tries this year where he puts up at least 25 points. Did you know he is 5th in the league in pass attempts?

Nyheim Hines, IND: I'm going to stick with him again this week. Given his success last week, I really like his ten days off, as the Colts prepped for the average jets run defense. Even if Mack bounces back 100% healthy this week, expect Hines to get close to a half dozen carries and possibly another half dozen receptions. He is on pace for 93 receptions this season, so that 6/6 split represents his floor, and that is IF Mack doesn't need extra rest. If you're in PPR, he's an easy pickup.
Ownership: Yahoo 52%; NFL 15% & ESPN 46%.
Alfred Morris, SF: the 49ers are this year's hot mess, but even in a mess useful pieces can emerge. With Breida's injury, Morris is first in line to get the lion's share of work. And CJ Beathard is JUST competent enough so defenses don't stack the box. You would like a better matchup than Green Bay, but we are chasing pure volume here and there should be a lot.
Ownership: Yahoo 43%; NFL 15% & ESPN 50%.
Wendell Smallwood: Well, Philly's RBBC has given way to WSTM: Wendell Smallwood, The Man. Clement isn't healthy, Ajayi is now on IR, Darren Sproles' hammy is acting up. The Giants are not the best matchup, but this is a big time RB2 volume play, just as Morris above.
Ownership: Yahoo 10%; NFL 1% & ESPN 8%.
Dede Westbrook, JAX: Blake Bortles is throwing the ball like crazy this season, something that is just now getting noticed. As mentioned above, the matchup isn't that bad for a passing attack that has shown its mettle against average defenses. And Dallas is an average defense. It's a bit of a crap shoot with Bortles completing at least 2 passes to 7 different receivers, but Westbrook has consistently been a top 3 in targets on this team.
Ownership: Yahoo 50%; NFL 12% & ESPN 42%.
Robby Anderson, NYJ: He's very much a boom or bust guy, but playing against the Colts leads me to believe it's more of a boom week. This should be a good step forward for Sam Darnold this week. That's been the real reason Anderson's results have been inconsistent.
Ownership: Yahoo 35%; NFL 51% & ESPN 42%.
Chris Godwin, TBB: prior to the collective dud the Buccaneers put up in Chicago, Godwin had found the end zone in their first 3 games. Atlanta's secondary has been quite soft this season and represents one of the best matchups to exploit in fantasy. I expect the Bucs show up with something to prove in this key divisional game.
Ownership: Yahoo 40%; NFL 5% & ESPN 40%.
Cameron Brate, TB: no, I'm not phoning this in by taking 3 Buccaneers, but sometimes you have to stick with concepts that are tried and true: this is a passing team with a lot to prove in that department coming off a bye week (2 weeks to prepare) against one of the worst passing defenses in the league. Sometimes, you've got to keep it simple. Brate is a nice part of this offense and he's had some of his best success with Winston. And oh yeah, OJ Howard is not playing this week either.
Ownership: Yahoo 33%; NFL 8% & ESPN 34%.
Green Bay Packers: this is a bit of a surprise; this might be one of the best matchups of the week in this category: the Packers are a top ten fantasy defense, and the Niners are allowing the most points to fantasy defenses. It's a Monday Night Football game in Green Bay. Brutal. They are just about 50/50 available in any league right now so I'd grab them if you're shaky on your matchup this week. Great streaming option.
Ownership: Yahoo 51%; NFL 41% & ESPN 42%.
That's it for this week folks – best of luck out there!
